Electric Vehicle (EV) Export Price Plan for solar customers

This plan is for customers who generate their own solar energy and own or lease an EV. Save on the energy you buy from SRP by shifting your energy use to off-peak hours and charging your EV during super off-peak hours.

On this page:

    How it works

On this plan, you can save when you limit your energy use during on-peak hours, when energy is more expensive to produce. Charge your EV each day during super off-peak hours for even lower SRP energy prices.

    Higher-cost on-peak hours  May to October: Weekdays from 2 to 8 p.m.
    November to April: Weekdays from 5 to 9 a.m. and 5 to 9 p.m.
    Lower-cost super off-peak hours  Year-round: Weekdays and weekends from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Low-cost off-peak hours  All other hours, weekends and six observed holidays Open tooltip to learn more.

There’s no monthly demand charge on the EV Export Price Plan. At times when your solar system is not producing energy, you will be billed instantly for energy used from the grid. Likewise, any time you aren’t using your solar generation, your account will be credited instantly for the excess energy at the fixed export rate of 2.81 cents/kWh. For this reason, it’s advantageous for customers to shift their energy use to times when their system is generating the most energy.

The EV Export Price Plan might be right for you if:

    • You prefer a plan with no demand charge and want a simpler approach to energy management.
    • You have a fully electric home and use your air conditioner or heater often, especially during on-peak hours.
    • You have a tankless electric water heater.
    • You have an electric vehicle and are able to charge during super off-peak hours – from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily.

Energy use is measured in kWh. Your monthly energy charge reflects how many kWh of energy your household has used during the billing cycle.

The kWh or unit cost of energy is different in winter and summer regardless of your price plan. The price you pay rises and falls with the demand for electricity. During the coolest months, customer usage, generation costs and the price you pay are lowest. During the hottest months, customer usage skyrockets and generation costs to meet peak demand are highest.

A graphic showing the energy charges for the Electric Vehicle (EV) Export price plan for solar customers. Prices during the summer season, which includes the May, June, September and October billing cycles, are 7.87 cents per kilowatt hour during super off-peak times, which are 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., 9.41 cents per kilowatt hour during off-peak times, which are 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. to 2 p.m., and 22.70 cents per kilowatt hour during on-peak times, which are 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. During the summer peak season, which includes the July and August billing cycles, prices are 7.90 cents per kilowatt hour during super off-peak times, which are 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., 9.46 cents per kilowatt hour during off-peak times, which are 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. to 2 p.m., and 25.85 cents per kilowatt hour during on-peak times, which are 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. During the winter season, which includes the November through April billing cycles, prices are 7.69 cents per kilowatt hour during super off-peak times, which are 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., 9.31 cents per kilowatt hour during off-peak times, which are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 9 p.m to 11 p.m., and 11.45 cents per kilowatt hour on-peak times, which are 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Your bill also includes a monthly service charge that helps cover the cost of grid access and maintenance. Most customers on this price plan will pay a monthly service charge of $32.44. Some very large homes with a service entrance section (electrical panel) larger than 200 amps will pay a monthly service charge of $45.44 per month.

    How export rates work

The amount of energy used in your home is constantly monitored and recorded by your meter.

This allows SRP to see the exact amount of energy you’ve used from the grid and any excess energy you’ve generated, which will be credited back to you.

This is different from net metering – used on the Customer Generation and Average Demand plans – in which excess kWh is subtracted from the delivered kWh to arrive at a net kWh number.
