High-Tech Interconnect Project (HIP) public process

SRP hosted five live online open house meetings in August and September, and also has a virtual open house available that can be viewed on-demand, 24 hours a day.

Public process

On December 16, 2021, The Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) voted unanimously to approve a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility (CEC) for the High-Tech Interconnection Project (HIP). Construction began in January 2022 on a new 230-kV substation on Intel’s campus, as well as new 230-kV transmission lines connecting the campus to two existing substations.

The SRP public process allows the public to provide valuable feedback to the project team prior to SRP filing an application with the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC).

SRP had planned on holding in-person open houses; however, based on the current situation with COVID-19, SRP modified these to be live online open houses. The live online open houses include an informational presentation and responses to questions received via email prior to the event. SRP has also set aside time to respond to questions during the open house.

Public hearing

SRP filed an Application for a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility (CEC) with the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) on Sept. 28, 2021. From Nov. 8 - 10, 2021, a public hearing was held before the Arizona Power Plant and Transmission Line Siting Committee. The committee reviewed the application to issue or deny the Certificate of Environmental Compliance Certificate (CEC). Customers were able to participate via online zoom or telephone, along with a Public Comment session the evening of Nov. 8.
